Quinta dos Távora is located in Loivos da Ribeira, in the municipality of Baião, Portugal
This property was built as a vacation home for the famous and legendary Portuguese ‘Távora’ family in the 16th century and is a unique reference in the municipality's heritage. Covering 225,000m2, the Quinta is made up of a wide variety of magnificent spaces, including an imposing emblazoned manor house with 800m2 of floor space and an interior garden, spread over two floors and surrounded by the most fertile agricultural and forest land.
The House, the oldest and largest building in the village, embraces the history and personality of a place that has spanned generations. With its diverse architectural styles, it has unique features that give it an unparalleled appearance even though part of its structure is visibly aging, caused by a decade of neglect.
The Chapel of Our Lady of Health and the Cruzeiro, a pilgrimage stop for devotees from neighboring regions until a few years ago, are also part of this enchanting site. The Cruzeiro features the characteristic Portuguese tiles depicting Our Lady of Health and a sonnet written in 1955 by Alberto Monteiro de Freitas, the former owner of this bucolic space.
In the silence of nature, the panoramic view over the Teixeira river valley can be enjoyed to the full.
The property has exceptional natural resources: the purity and abundance of water and the richness of the soil make this one of the most desirable places in the region. Springs, water mines and storage tanks supply all this fertile land. The village fountain is also supplied by one of the springs that has belonged to the property for several decades.
As well as a unique building, the Quinta consists of 3 agricultural and forestry plots with an area of approximately 225,000 m2.
For centuries, the estate's main agricultural activity was growing vines and producing wine.
Located in a wine region of world excellence, this is where vinho verde is produced, with unique characteristics that give it an unparalleled color, aroma and taste. The restructuring of the hectares of planted vineyards, in terraces and levels, allows for the growth and development of high quality grape varieties, combined with the Mediterranean climate which allows for optimum ripening of the grapes.
The main grape varieties are Avesso and Arinto.
In keeping with the tradition of Casa dos Távora, we produce our wine by hand. The wines are produced in the house's cellar and to support the winemaking activity, the property has 2 vats of 30000 lt, 10 vats of 1000 lt, 1 vat of 1500 lt and 1 of 750 lt, as well as 2 presses.
Surrounded by classic vineyards, Quinta dos Távora is also framed by fruit trees: cherry trees, chestnut trees, walnut trees, orange trees, clementine trees, mandarin trees, apple trees, pear trees, plum trees and olive trees are some of the trees that reflect the sustainable attitude of the biodiversity of an ecosystem, where modern and effective techniques have been adopted that encourage the diversified maintenance of living soils, flora and fauna.
The highest part of the property also includes a soccer pitch. This sports ground was once used by the town's soccer club. Nowadays, it is used occasionally by the local population for physical exercise.
If you dream of living in the countryside or want to invest in a property with tourist potential, this is the perfect opportunity.
